Redhill marks Diwali at The Belfry on Saturday 7 November, noon to 3pm, with dance, dhol drumming and food stalls. Entry is free. Checked 5 November 2026.

Diwali comes to the middle of Redhill this Saturday. The Asian Social Group is holding its free celebration at The Belfry Shopping Centre on Saturday 7 November, from noon to 3pm.

This is the fourth year running. The group organises it with Reigate and Banstead Borough Council and The Belfry, the council’s listing says.

What is on

The listing promises:

  • the Mayor of Reigate and Banstead lighting the ceremonial diya
  • Bollywood music and dance by children and adults
  • dhol drumming
  • Indian food stalls
  • Indian handicrafts and henna art
  • face painting and activities for all ages

No running order has been published, so we do not know what time the Mayor lights the diya. Arriving at noon is the safe choice if you want to see it.

The festival is celebrated by Hindus, Jains and Sikhs. Its name comes from the Sanskrit “Deepavali”, meaning a row of lights, and it marks the victory of light over darkness.

Who is behind it

The Asian Social Group is a registered charity, number 1162062, set up in 2015. It works across Reigate and Banstead to bring communities together and support mental health and wellbeing. Its aims include bridging the gap between ethnic minorities and wider society.

Also on Saturday: Merstham Wellfest

There is a second free community event that afternoon. Merstham Wellfest Fair runs from 2pm to 5pm at Merstham Community Hub, 2b Portland Drive, RH1 3HY.

It brings together local health, wellness and support groups. Expect taster sessions, therapy animals, a pledge wall, tea, coffee and “plenty of cake”.
