The Barclays van at Morrisons in Reigate makes its last visit on Friday 23 October. Here is what it does, and where Barclays customers can go after that date.

The Barclays van that parks at Morrisons in Reigate every Friday is being withdrawn. Its last visit is Friday 23 October.

Barclays gives the date on the van’s own page in its branch finder. “This service will close on Friday 23 October,” the page says. It gives no reason.

Barclays’ finder lists no other location in Reigate itself. The bank’s own closure booklet set the town’s branch closure for Friday 7 January 2022.

What the van does, and does not do

The van stops at Morrisons, 22-32 Bell Street, RH2 7BA. It is there on Fridays only, from 9.30am to 2pm, according to the Barclays page.

It offers help with money management, Barclays products and account services. It has free wifi. The bank is clear about the limit:

  • no counter service
  • no cash
  • no cheques

So anyone who used it was already going elsewhere to pay in or take out money. What goes on 23 October is the chance to sit down with a member of Barclays staff in the town centre.

Where Barclays customers can go instead

The nearest Barclays branch is in Redhill, at 80/84 Station Road, RH1 1PW. The bank’s finder puts it 1.53 miles from the van’s stop. Its branch page lists these hours:

The Redhill branch has an outside cash machine that takes deposits. Barclays says on Saturdays you “won’t be able to make large cash and coin transactions” there, and suggests booking an appointment for anything that needs time.

The next nearest Barclays counters listed by the finder are all shared Banking Hubs, not Barclays branches:

  • Dorking, 5.42 miles away
  • Caterham, 6.38 miles away
  • Coulsdon, 6.47 miles away

For everyday cash, Barclays points people to LINK’s cash locator, which lists free cash machines and Post Office counters by postcode.

What it means for you

  • Need help with your account? Use the van on any Friday up to and including 23 October, between 9.30am and 2pm.
  • After that, the Redhill branch on Station Road is the closest place to see Barclays staff. Redhill is one stop from Reigate by train. Our parking in Reigate page has the town’s car parks if you are driving to the van before then.
  • Cash and cheques never went through the van, so nothing changes there.

It is not the only counter service going this autumn. Horley’s post office closes on 3 October when the Morrisons store it sits in shuts.
